How to Establish Florida Residency for Students to Pay In-State Tuition
Modified on: Thu, Dec 12 2024 11:41 AMWhy It's Important
According to Florida law, to pay in-state tuition for PSC classes, you must declare Florida residency and prove that you qualify as a Florida resident. Alabama residents meeting residency criteria for their state may qualify for Florida tuition plus a differential. If you do not submit the residency documents required by the first day of classes for the term, you will be charged the out-of-state tuition rate for your classes. What This Means
First-time students at Pensacola State College will receive a notification in Workday - My Tasks titled "Florida or Alabama Residency Declaration for Student Residency". This task asks you to declare your residency. Once you submit that, another task will appear titled "Florida Dependent Residency Questionnaire" asking for documentation. To prove residency for tuition purposes, you will need to attach at least two pieces of documentation with dates that prove you or your parents were a Florida resident for at least one year before the first day of classes.
What is Required
1. Open the task and read the instructions on the types of documents you need to provide in the form.
Per the instructions on the form, if you are a dependent student, your parent will be the Claimant, and if you are an independent student, you will be the Claimant. Make sure to fill out the form with the information for the correct person.
Read the dropdown options in the permitted exceptions box if the Claimant does not qualify as a Florida or Alabama resident.
2. Select one of the permitted exceptions that is true for the Claimant.
3. If you selected one of the permitted exceptions, in the box below, attach the type of document requested.
The requested document will vary based on the answer you gave in Step #2. If you did not select an option in the permitted exceptions box, no Select Files box will appear below it.
Read the list of documents that can be submitted as proof of residency at the top of the page.
4. Find or obtain either
